Frequently Asked Questions on PMI-ACP Course

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-ACP exam?
    • To be eligible for the PMI-ACP exam, you need to meet the following criteria:
      • Secondary degree: High school diploma, associate’s degree, or global equivalent.
      • General project experience: 12 months of general project experience within the last 5 years (a current PMP® or PgMP® certification satisfies this requirement).
      • Agile project experience: 8 months of agile project experience within the last 3 years. This is in addition to the 12 months of general project experience.
Agile training: 21 contact hours of training in agile practices. Note: Some sources mention 28 contact hours, so it’s best to confirm the latest requirement with PMI.
The PMI-ACP exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions. These questions may be scenario-based and cover various agile methodologies. 20 of these are pre-test questions and do not count towards your score.

You have 3 hours (180 minutes) to complete the PMI-ACP exam. There is an optional 10-minute break after the first 60 questions.

  • The PMI-ACP Exam Content Outline (ECO) outlines the areas covered in the exam. The domains were updated in November 2024 and currently include:
    • Domain I: Mindset (28%)
    • Domain II: Leadership (25%)
    • Domain III: Product (19%)
    • Domain IV: Delivery (28%)
  • Note: Older sources might list seven domains. The updated ECO with four domains is the current standard.

PMI does not disclose the exact passing score for the PMI-ACP exam. Instead, your performance is reported as “Above Target,” “Target,” or “Below Target” for each domain. It’s recommended to aim for a score of at least 70% on practice exams to feel adequately prepared.
You can take the PMI-ACP exam online via a proctored service or in person at a Pearson VUE testing center.
Yes, if you don’t pass the exam on your first attempt, you can retake it. However, there are limits on the number of attempts within your eligibility period, and you will need to pay a retake fee.
The PMI-ACP certification is valid for three years.
To maintain your PMI-ACP certification, you need to earn 30 Professional Development Units (PDUs) in agile topics every three-year cycle and pay a renewal fee to PMI.

What does a PMI-ACP training course cover?
PMI-ACP training courses provide a comprehensive understanding of agile principles, practices, tools, and techniques across various agile methodologies. This includes Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Extreme Programming (XP), and Test-Driven Development (TDD). The courses emphasize applying these concepts in real-world scenarios and often cover the Agile Manifesto and its principles.

Yes, reputable PMI-ACP training courses are designed to meet the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) requirement of 21 contact hours of agile practices training needed to be eligible for the PMI-ACP exam. Note: Some sources mention 28 contact hours, so it’s best to confirm the latest requirement with PMI.

Expect course materials aligned with the PMI-ACP Exam Content Outline and relevant agile resources, practice questions, and possibly access to mock exams or simulation tools. Some courses may also recommend or include access to the Agile Practice Guide.

No, the PMI-ACP exam fee is a separate cost paid directly to PMI when you apply for the certification. The fee varies for PMI members and non-members.

Courses are offered in various formats, including live online sessions, in-person classes, and on-demand online learning. Durations can range from a few days of intensive training to several weeks of part-time study.
Yes, reputable training providers use instructors who are certified (often PMI-ACP or other relevant agile certifications like CSM, CSPO, SAFe) and have practical experience in applying agile methodologies.
What is Agile project management?
  • Agile project management is an iterative and incremental approach that focuses on collaboration, flexibility, and delivering value in smaller increments. It emphasizes adapting to change and continuous feedback.
Common agile methodologies include Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Extreme Programming (XP), Crystal, and Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM). The PMI-ACP exam covers a range of these.
The Agile Manifesto is a foundational document that outlines the core values and principles of agile software development and has broader applications in project management. Understanding these values and principles is crucial for the PMI-ACP exam.
